Five straight defeats spell the end for Lewer at Southport

By Alex Beard
North side have announced this afternoon that manager Alan Lewer has left the club by mutual consent.
The Sandgrounders’ decision comes after a wretched run of five straight defeats, which have left the club 14th in the table and out of the after a 3-0 loss to Bradford Park Avenue two weekends ago.
They suffered another 3-0 defeat last weekend, this time against Nuneaton Town, and have decided that enough is enough. Head of Development Mark Wright has also had his request for his contract to be terminated accepted.
Southport director Ian Kyle said: “We would like to thank Mark and Alan for their hard work and dedication over the last few months.
“However, on the back of recent performances on the pitch, the chairman and board of directors felt it in the best interests of the club and the management team to move in a different direction.
“Mark and Alan were an instrumental part of our early season success, and we would like to extend our thanks and best wishes to them both and wish them every success in the future.”
Southport will now begin the process of determining their next manager, with club captain Steven Schumacher and goalkeeping coach Iain Turner handling first team matters in the interim.
