HARROGATE TOWN have released a statement distancing themselves from an individual who threatened journalist Piers Morgan on Twitter.
A man claiming to be Dominic Carter, who once had trials with Harrogate’s youth development team, took to the social media site to say he would stab the television host.
The Twitter account the threat was made from has now been closed down and the Conference North club have since said Carter has no official connection to them.
A statement posted on their website said: “Harrogate Town AFC would like to categorically deny that Mr Carter, despite having trials with our youth development team in the past, has any official connections with the club, both as a player or as a member of staff.
“As a family friendly club we do not condone any message, or act, of violence towards any individual.
“Mr Carter has been in contact with the club and has apologised for any upset the unsolicited comments have caused.”
The went on to add: “The club would like to apologise to Mr Morgan for any upset that these events may have caused him.
“We would like to remind all fans that visit Harrogate Town AFC that we do not tolerate any verbal or physical acts of aggression inside the CNG Stadium.
“Should any of these acts be witnessed by a member of staff, the offending individual(s) will be removed from the ground and may face further legal action.”
