BISHOP’S STORTFORD boss Rod Stringer is confident his side can push on to bigger and better things as long as they avoid relegation from the National League South this season.
The Blues’ 2-1 win over Whitehawk on Tuesday night moved them up to 13th in the league and they are nine points off both the relegation zone and play-off spots.
Striker Morgan Ferrier and defender Chris M’Boungou were released by Stringer last week and the boss moved to bring in forward Bradley Fortnum-Tomlinson from Grays Athletic.
The former Braintree Town manager says he needed to freshen up his squad as they reach the final stages of the season with the Blues looking likely to remain at Step 2.
Stringer told the Herts & Essex Observer: “That’s all I said at the start of this season, that I wanted to keep us in this division. Hopefully next year the club can go onwards and upwards if all the things behind the scenes work for us.
“I released Morgan and brought the new lad in. It’s because I felt we needed to change things up front. We needed to have a little bit more workrate and be more aggressive. Brad came in and caused a problem for them. With Robbie Willmott and Elliott Buchanan up top they did great.
“Chris has gone as well. It was unfortunately a decision that was out of my hands as he decided that he didn’t play in one or two games and he should be playing every week. I look at my bench at people like Josh Ekim and you see that that’s not how football works.
“We need to get Mikel Suarez and Ashley Miller back and we’re in a good place. I’m not saying 43 points keeps you up, but it’s really helped push us up the table.”
