ALEX PIKE’S Gosport Borough side smashed a 71-year-old club record on Tuesday night, thrashing poor Widbrook United 19-1!
Pike put out a near full strength team to take on the Step 8 side, who play in the Portsmouth Saturday Football League, in the Portsmouth Senior Cup first round.
Former Winchester City goal machine Warren Bentley and Dan Wooden both netted four times while TJ Cuthbertson and Ollie Bailey scored hat-tricks.
Sam Pearce fired in two more and Brett Poate, Mike Carter and Jamie Barron also contributed to the scoreline as National League South Borough created some history.
The mammoth result surpasses the club’s previous record win which was a 14-0 victory over Cunliffe Owen back in 1945.
Rob Lett responded for Widbrook but it wasn’t quite enough as Pike’s side prepared in the best possible way for Saturday’s visit of high-flying Chelmsford City.
