Gosport Borough chairman dismisses fears over club’s future after another winding-up petition

chairman Mark Hook has dismissed fears over the club’s future after they were served with a winding-up petition by HM Revenue & Customs.

It was revealed last week that the National League South outfit had been handed their second winding-up petition in five months and are due in the High Court on November 21.

However, chairman Hook has assured fans that the tax bill has already been paid off and that the hearing in London will be thrown out.

“It’s frustrating, we were issued with a High Court writ 17 days after the bill,” he told BBC Radio Solent.

“I can assure everyone that everything has been paid off and it will be thrown out at the hearing on 21 November.”

Hook has also said that he is “happy to step aside” with talks of a local consortium interested in taking over at Privett Park.

The long-term future of boss Alex Pike is also up in the air as he is understood to be one of the frontrunners for the job.

On a potential takeover, Hook added: “If anyone wants to come and run the club and put the right investment in, I’m more than happy to step aside.”

Gosport’s Supporters Club have, meanwhile, started the #LoveYourClub scheme as they look to raise funds for the cash-strapped Hampshire outfit.

The project is asking supporters to pledge to raise a minimum of £50 with the Supporters Club claiming there is a £40,000 black hole after Jim Fallon’s promised sponsorship was withdrawn.

Supporters Club chairman Paul Maidment said: “I am ecstatic to launch the #LoveYourClub scheme. After the news earlier in the season that Jim Fallon would not be sponsoring the club, we have tried to come up with a way to encourage fans to help support the club and to reduce the impact that this loss will have on the club.

“We already have 20 supporters signed up who have pledged to raise a minimum of £1,000 between them. This scheme shows how a little bit of help can make such a big difference to our club and I would encourage all Boro fans to get on board!”
