WHILE football as a whole has lessons to learn from the pandemic, I agree with many of the calls for the governance of the game to be looked at from top to bottom.
Although I don’t believe years of experience should simply be discarded, there does seem to be a lot of sense in the theory there should be more independent members of boards at all levels.
Traditionally, leagues are run by their member clubs but, as we have seen over the last 12 months, that creates an air of suspicion about motivations for the decisions that are made.
