TONBRIDGE ANGELS new manager, Steve McKimm, is raring to go for his first season in the job saying: “I’m going to take this chance with both hands.”
The new manager has been handed his first managerial job following a period as coach at Sutton United.
The Kent side found themselves relegated from Conference South after a poor campaign where goals were a problem, scoring a fraction over a goal-per-game. However McKimm has immediately looked to sort out the team’s shyness in front of goal.
The club have announced the signings of Billy Medlock and Tommy Whitnell and McKimm believes the two can combine well for his side next year saying: “They both know where the goal is and I’m looking forward to see them play together.
“However, I’m not ruling out anyone else and everyone must perform to a level that is acceptable to stay in the side. The players all know performance levels have to be there but I’m excited about the prospect of those two lining up together.”
McKimm has signed a host of players having had to reassemble his squad after many had chosen to play elsewhere. He also admits that his summer transfer activity is yet to be finalised with the Tonbridge boss keen to add a few more faces during pre-season.
He said: “I’ve made 11 signings so far but I’ve got other offers that are being considered.”
The Angels manager is not letting the fact that it’s his first season in the job detract from the club’s ambitions, though, and wants to return the club to the Conference South.
He said: “Despite it being a newly assembled squad, we’ll be aiming for the play-offs.
“We want to finish as high as we can. I think if you ask any manager in any league what their aspirations were, every manager would want to finish in the play-offs.”
