CONFERENCE North side Tamworth have announced that former Wrexham boss Andy Morrell has taken over as manager at the Lamb.
Morrell quit as player-boss of the Welsh side in February after taking charge in September 2011 following Dean Saunders’ departure to Doncaster.
The former Blackpool striker led the Dragons to the Conference play-offs twice where they lost to Luton in the semi-finals in 2012 before being defeated by fellow Welsh side Newport County in the final a year later.
There was some Wembley cheer for Morrell, however, as Wrexham saw off Grimsby Town after a penalty shoot-out in the FA Trophy final in 2013.
He takes over a Tamworth side who are fourth bottom of the table after winning just one of their opening 11 games while also drawing six.
Their slow start led to the departure of club legend Dale Belford last week and Morrell’s first game in charge will be in the FA Cup on Saturday as the Lambs host Rushall Olympic.
