Bristol Rovers Investigate After Jason Brown Racially Abused

BRISTOL ROVERS say they are “conducting a full investigation” after keeper Jason Brown was racially abused in the Conference game between the two clubs last night.

The Gas have also said that any fans found to have been involved in the incident will be banned from the club for life.

Rovers won the game at the Memorial Stadium 1-0 thanks to a 37th minute penalty from Matty Taylor but it wasn’t until after the match that the incident was discovered.

Brown took to Twitter to say: “Just played against Bristol Rovers and was racially abused by someone who was standing next to a steward who chose not to do anything!

“I reported it to the ref and pointed at the person who was doing it and surprise surprise, (they’ve) not done anything! The supporter was not ejected, he was allowed to walk out like nothing .

“Thank you #brfc and #dfc for your support it gives me hope that racism in can be smashed down to a very small minority by supporters and players!

“Now if we can get the same type of backing by the governing bodies and I don’t mean token efforts I mean real action then could you imagine how much we could achieve together!”

A Bristol Rovers statement read: “During our game against Dartford last night, visiting goalkeeper Jason Brown was racially abused by one or more of our supporters who were stood on the terrace behind his goal.

“Bristol Rovers are conducting a full investigation into the incident and co-operating fully with the police with the sole aim of identifying and apprehending the perpetrator(s) of the abuse.
