HARRY BEAUTYMAN thinks his hot start to ‘s season is because he spent the summer getting sweaty.

It was a close season of graft for the 22-year-old as he put in hours in the gym and at his local park as well as signing up to Bikram Yoga – practised in 40 degree heat.

The midfielder is putting himself under pressure to be a big player for Jamie Day’s Wings after a frustrating first campaign personally in the top-flight.

Beautyman joined Welling last August from Conference South side Sutton United, but feels he didn’t show his true best after tearing two ankle ligaments soon after the move.

And his summer regime is certainly paying off with the former youngster in the goals.

“Last year was hard for me,” Beautyman, who has scored seven times this season, told The .

“It took me about eight games to find my form when I came back because I’d been out for quite a while. I’ve never been injured before so I found it hard to deal with. Mentally I was a bit upset and a bit stressed.

Pressure

“I wasn’t playing bad, but I wasn’t playing great. By the last four games of the season I felt back to my best. I felt sharp. Obviously by then it’s too late.

“I’ve said to myself this is a massive year for me. I’m putting a lot of pressure on myself. But it’s good pressure.

“I worked really hard over the summer, and I mean really hard. It was little things. I was going to Bikram Yoga, to get more flexible, I was going to the gym, going over the park and doing sprints by myself.

“Don’t get me wrong, I’m not eager to get out of Welling at all. I’m only 22 and I feel that if I want to progress, this is the year to have a good season.”

Beautyman is keen to put himself back in the picture after making his debut in Bermuda in 2013. But first and foremost he wants to keep contributing to a Welling team that is recovering from a slow start to the new season.

“Our home form has been good but it’s just been away,” he said. “We’ve picked up some good points in the last six weeks and I think that’s kickstarted our season.”
