Vanarama winners live life to the Maccs!

TOWN’S exploits this season have come as a shock to most – even for ‘s latest VIP winner George Williams, it’s been a pleasant surprise.

Williams was treated to a life of luxury at Macc’s recent goalless draw against title contenders Bristol Rovers having won Vanarama’s competition, posted in The .

The 62-year-old visited Moss Rose with friend Colin Farnworth, and even though there were no goals on show, the Silkmen fan had no complaints.

Williams said: “It was a great day out, and thanks to all those at Vanarama, and the club for putting it all together for us.

“I’m a season ticket holder, but it was nice to be able to enjoy the hospitality suite for the game. I’ve been supporting Macc since 2005, when I first visited the club for a business meeting.

“The then commercial director Colin Garlick invited me to come and watch a game. When I realised that Sammy McIlroy had been manager, that was the beginning of the Silkmen journey for me as I too am from Northern Ireland!

Brunch

“It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster supporting the Silkmen. Given the club’s reported financial position last summer, with a reputed minimal playing budget, then I think we have done really well.

“I never thought that we would be serious contenders for a play-off spot this season. Full credit must go to John Askey as manager and Efe Sodje for driving these amazing performances.”

And although Macclesfield’s rise up the table may have been unexpected, the treatment received by Williams is well worthy of the VIP tag.

He added: “On arrival we were each given a glass a of champagne, and a complimentary match programme to browse.

“This was followed by an excellent brunch in the McIlroy Suite, in the presence of the Bollington Brass Band.

“We were fortunate to see two Macclesfield legends in Sammy McIlroy and Phil Power, who were also in the suite.

“Our plush seats in the stand were alongside VIPs including former director Andy Scott and John Askey’s family!

“It was an entertaining match but the draw was probably a fair result, even though both teams could have done with three points.

“After the match we returned to the suite, to see Thierry Audel and George receive men of the match presentations. It was a fantastic day.”
