Steve Kittrick sacked by AFC Telford United just five games into season

STEVE KITTRICK has been sacked as manager of side just five games into the season.

Former boss Kittrick took control of the Bucks in December following the departure of Liam Watson and, despite an upturn in results, he couldn’t keep the club in ‘s top division.

Hopes were high for an instant return following a busy summer in which Kittrick added 20 new faces but early success evaded the club.

The 2-0 home defeat to Gainsborough on Saturday left them bottom of the pile with just one point to their name – a goalless home draw against newly promoted .

The slow start led the Bucks board to move quickly with former Nuneaton and chief Kevin Wilkin heavily linked to the post.

Bucks chairman Ian Dosser said: “I met Steve at the Bucks Head on Thursday for an hour and we did talk around where we were, the results and the events of pre-season.

“Steve and I had exchanged thoughts on Thursday ahead of Saturday. Steve was very professional and we liked him a lot – we wish him well.

“It was by mutual consent in the sense that Steve and I had spoken prior to the game (against Gainsborough) and knew it wasn’t working. We knew it had to improve pretty quickly.

“We’ve judged Steve since he came to the club in December 2014. Our home form has been disastrous and the attendances have fallen – we can’t afford for those two things to happen.

“We’ve not spoken to anyone yet but there may well be approaches made to the preferred candidates. We are confident we can bounce back from this.”
