COLNE FC are reeling from another break in at their XLCR Stadium with the culprits rubbing salt into the wound by leaving a note following the raid.
The break in happened some time between 7pm on Saturday and 10am on Sunday despite the club being locked up after the North West Counties League Premier game against AFC Blackpool, which high-flying Colne won 2-1.
Burglars broke into the club’s cafe and bar, stealing ten bottles of spirits alongside chocolate and sweets.
And they then rubbed the club’s noses in it by cooking burgers on a griddle before leaving a poorly constructed note that read “thank you burgor (sic) was great” before signing off with “Joey back at it” and a smiley face.
It’s estimated that the break in, the third of the year at Colne, will cost the club in the region of £1,000 and you can help the club out at https://crowdfunding.justgiving.com/stuart-cross
Club treasurer Janette Harries said: “It’s cheeky; they are rubbing our noses in it. Whether they are dumb enough to write their real name, you can’t tell.
“They got the burgers out of the freezer and put them on the griddle and defrosted teacakes; they even used oil on the griddle. So they have been quite considerate. But he didn’t wash up afterwards.
“We are all unpaid volunteers and the club is not for profit; any money we make we reinvest in the club, and this is diverting what we have away from developing and advancing the club. It’s very frustrating.”
