It’s been a long journey to the second tier for Louis Moult but the Stoke-born striker is finally getting his chance to shine in the Championship. The forward is just 26-years old and has already featured for ten different clubs throughout his career, including Non-League duo Nuneaton Borough and Wrexham. Although he’s been largely restricted to appearances from the bench this year, he has proved very effective as a super-sub and he’s become an important part of the North End squad.
Moult has now netted three times in all competitions this season with the last of his strikes arriving in stoppage time to help secure his side a vital point at the KCom Stadium on October 20th. His goal helped Preston continue their three-match unbeaten run and it also prevented one of the club’s relegation rivals from picking up all three points. Alex Neil’s side have got off to a poor start this season and have collected just 15 points from their opening sixteen Championship matches. Despite a noticeable upturn in form, the Lilywhites are still nervously looking over their shoulders and can be backed at 10/1 for relegation in the Championship betting odds this season. They’ve netted more goals than any other side in the bottom ten but their problems have been at the other end of the pitch.
Moult will be best remembered by non-league fans for his spell in North Wales where he netted 23 goals in 37 appearances for the Dragons. The club received a welcome windfall following his transfer to Lancashire but fans would have preferred to see him spend more than just a single season at the club. He followed manager Kevin Wilkin to the Racecourse Ground after impressing for Nuneaton Town and he helped guide them to the FA Trophy final. Unfortunately, the Dragons lost on penalties to North Ferriby but Moult found the net twice in West London, including his timely equaliser which helped take the game to a shoot-out.
After netting 18 times for the Nuneaton Town, fifth-tier clubs were heavily linked with the services of the frontman but it was Wilkin and Wrexham that managed to entice the striker to sign a one-year deal in North Wales. Upon arriving, Wilkin tasked his new signing with netting twenty times for the National League outfit and he didn’t let his manager down.
