Matt’s Cod Army Move Done And Dusted

JAMILLE MATT has completed his move to League Two side Fleetwood Town.

The fee Harriers have received for the striker remains undisclosed but the club’s chairman Mark Serrell feels it is a good bit of business.

Speaking to the club’s website, Serrell said: “We may not be able to be completely specific but I can confirm to supporters who will expect a certain level of transparency from us that, for the sake of perspective, the fee we will receive will be the biggest initial fee that this club has received for any other player in its history.

“I am also sure that it represents the second biggest initial transfer fee ever for a player from the Conference and Fleetwood have also confirmed it is their record transfer fee – so you can see that the club has done all it can to get the best possible deal.

Jamaican-born Matt missed the back end of last season and the start of 2012/13 after a legal dispute over his eligibility to live and work in the UK.

That was settled in November and he returned to action with a bang, netting eight goals in eight games for the Harriers.

The money made from the transfer will be available to be reinvested by Harriers boss , as confirmed by Serrell, who said: “The funds we’ll receive won’t be used to service any debts at the club because there aren’t any.

“Ultimately the long-term sustainability of the club is more important than any other factor and that should never be forgotten but certainly if Steve and Gary were to pinpoint players who they felt would strengthen the squad then we would support them as much as we possibly can.”
