New Chairman Appointed At Cambridge United

DAVE DOGGETT has taken over as chairman of Cambridge United, succeeding Paul Berry, who quit the role earlier this month after three years in charge.

Speaking about his appointment, the lifelong U’s fan said: “It is a privilege to have been given this opportunity to be chairman of this club in its Centenary year.

“I have been busy during the last 12 months understanding the pitfalls and opportunities of being involved with a professional club. I insisted before I joined the board last year that egos would be left outside the boardroom and only business brains allowed in.

“I have been fortunate in so far as the difficult decisions had been made two years ago regarding the financial model for this club going forward. There were considerable short-term financial challenges as a result of this decision, particularly regarding players and previous management team contracts.

“This financial black hole needed filling before the club could start promoting itself as a financially stable club and to be a club that businesses and supporters wanted to be associated with and be proud of.”
