LINCOLN CITY have handed Gary Simpson the managerial reins on a deal running until the end of the season.
Simpson, 51, spent a brief period as caretaker manager of the Imps back in 2003-04 following a four-year spell as assistant boss to Keith Alexander.
He has since spent time as director of football at Bury and managed Lincoln’s Blue Square Bet Premier rivals Macclesfield Town.
Simpson takes over from Grant Brown and Chris Moyses, who oversaw Saturday’s goalless draw with Barrow and a 1-0 home defeat to Mansfield Town on Tuesday night.
Speaking about the appointment, Imps chairman Bob Dorian said: “Gary had been in our sights for quite a while and we instigated talks with him early last week, culminating in this afternoon’s appointment.
“We are very pleased that Gary has agreed to join us and as a Board we look forward to working with him.
“Gary is a former Imps’ stalwart and I am sure you will all give him the support he and the club needs.”
