Stockport County Go Part-Time

STOCKPORT COUNTY have confirmed that they will go part-time ahead of life in the Conference North.

The Hatters were relegated into the second tier of the pyramid on the final day of the Conference Premier season after being beaten 4-0 by Harriers.

County boss Ian Bogie met with the club’s board on Thursday and the decision was reached for the Hatters to train three times a week instead of four.

Despite this, Bogie says the club can still be successful working with their revised schedule.

Speaking to the club’s website, he said: ““I have achieved success in this league before on a part-time basis, and I would prefer to be given a healthy part-time budget than a massively reduced full-time budget.

“You also have to question experienced, full-time players who would want to drop down to play at this level.  This is the right way to go.

“I am pleased the decision has been taken at an early stage; our preparations are already well under way for next season and myself and Alan Lord have been speaking to several prospective signings.
“We’re in for a very busy summer and, with the backing of the fans, I believe we can put out a really exciting and successful side next season.”
The club’s vice-chairman Spencer Fearn added: “This decision has not been taken lightly, but it is the most appropriate way to take the club forward and keep Stockport County sustainable in non-league .”
