MICHAEL SPILLANE says the way director of football Jez George and manager Richard Money sold him their vision of Cambridge United led him to turn down other clubs and join the U’s.
Spillane arrives at the Abbey on a one-year deal having spent the second half of last season at Southend United.
He made nine starts for the Shrimpers after joining them from Dagenham & Redbridge, whom he played for over 50 times between November 2011 and January 2013.
The midfielder, who has also represented Norwich, Luton and Brentford over the course of his career, said he had a number of options this summer but says Cambridge was always his preferred destination.
Speaking to the club’s website, Spillane said: “I’m delighted to be here and I can’t wait to get going.
“The plans the club have, and the way Jez and Richard sold the club to me has got me really excited. I cant wait to get going and push on for a successful season here.
