Nathan Ellington Joins Southport

have added former Wigan Athletic and West Bromwich Albion striker Nathan Ellington to their squad.

Ellington began his career with club and had a spell with before signing for Bristol Rovers in 1999.

He went on to make over 110 appearances for Rovers prior to making a £1.2m move to Wigan.

Nathan Ellington DCThe frontman averaged almost a goal every game in his three-and-a-half year stay with the Latics, form that saw West Brom pay £3m for his services in August 2005.

After two seasons at the Hawthorns he moved to Watford, with the Hornets paying £3.2m to take him to Vicarage Road.

However, Ellington struggled for form while at Watford and only managed five goals in over 50 league appearances.

He spent loan spells at Derby, Greek side Skoda Xanthi and Preston North End before leaving Watford permanently to sign for Ipswich in 2011.

In January 2013 he left the Tractor Boys by mutual consent and subsequently penned a short-term deal with Crewe, a deal that expired at the end of the 2012/13 campaign.

The 32-year-old, who has been a free agent since leaving Crewe, goes straight into the Southport squad for their game with Town this evening.
