National Game Awards in association with SCL: Top honours belong to your superfans

WE’RE often asked about the highlights of the , or quizzed about the category which seems to matter the most.

Once the big clear-up has been concluded and the write-ups from the big day filed by our journalists, it’s very rare than the Fan of the Year isn’t one of the most instantly remembered.

Why? Well we love nothing more than rewarding the people who make our game so special. With thanks to betting giants William Hill, back once again getting behind the popular award, we can honour someone who goes the extra mile to make the game what it is.

That can of course literally mean that. Do you know a supporter who travels the length and breadth of the country to back the team in full voice and full colour, come rain or come shine? Perhaps there’s someone who travels from afar and won’t miss a home match?

Could there be a committed volunteer who has reached a significant milestone after years of dedication to the burger bar or the treasured 50-50 ticket box? Or do you have a fan in mind who does something a little different? Like last year’s golden girl Mary Jinks, for example.

The 86-year-old was the star of the show, explaining to the room not only her love for the game but outlined why she puts her money where her mouth is. The super fan sponsors young Non-League players but one in particular has caught her eye.

So smitten was she with Andy Halls that Mary went all the way to Cyprus to watch the Town defender play in a friendly for ! This, we think, is the type of dedication that can’t do without.

So urges you to not let the opportunity to honour one of the game’s shining stars with a story behind them.

Write in and tell us more about someone at your club who has to be recognised and let us know why. Without you letting us know, the chances are we could miss meeting them this summer to give that deserved supporter recognition.
