Time to crown your goal king

HUCK NETS Goal of the Season

THERE’S nothing like a wonder goal to get the crowds of their feet – and once again this year we’ve been blessed with some absolute pearlers!

The Goal of the Season award, sponsored by our friends at Huck Nets, is contended by a number of worthy nominees with spectacular efforts flying in all over the place.

Taking well-worked team goals, outstanding pieces of individual skill or long-range belters into account, this is traditionally one of the hardest awards to decide on and The panel will certainly have their work cut out before announcing the winner at the National Game Awards ceremony on June 14.

Granted, having some of these moments captured on social media videos has made life a little easier for the judges – but it will still be a tough task deciding who will follow in the footsteps of 2019 winner Jorome Slew for his cracker for Maldon & Tiptree against in the FA Cup.

One serious contender is Clevedon Town full-back Oli Babington.

His dipping 50-yard volley against Buckland Athletic has already been hailed as “‘s Goal of the Season’ and has even been put forward as a contender for the 2022 Puskas Award!

Babington let fly after a Clevedon attack was cleared high out onto the right wing, where he smashed it on the volley right into the top-left corner of the opposition’s net beyond the reach of the scrambling Buckland keeper.

But unlike that glorious day in January, Babington will not have things his own way in the race to become this season goal-den boy.

‘ Ollie Tanner showed just why Tottenham were sniffing around the Dripping Pan earlier this season with a 30-yard belter at , while Hornchurch’s Lewwis Spence – and teammate Mickey Parcell – have both netted inside their own half this term.

Saidou Khan did likewise for against Woking with a shot on the turn, while Marcus Carver buried a memorable 20-yard overhead kick for against which earned him a January move to .

And how about Ali Samizadeh’s stonking run and strike from the left channel for which left Bowers & Pitsea clutching at straws?

There’s simply too many to choose from so that’s why we need your votes to help crown our master striker. Get those votes in now.
