THE Mark Harrod Team of the Year award is always one of our most hotly-contested prizes and it looks like being no different this year.
The NLP‘s National Game Awards, in association with Budweiser Club Futures, will be recognising a team who have achieved success and had a season to remember. But with a vast array of possible winners, this one will be close. You only have to look at the top of the Blue Square Bet Premier to see two possible winners straight away.
Mansfield recovered from an inconsistent start to march towards to the top of the league. You can’t forget their FA Cup run either, which ended at the third round against Liverpool and that controversial Luis Suarez goal.
And then there’s Kidderminster, below, who were rock bottom and without a win in their first ten games before Steve Burr transformed his side into a major force in the division.
Wrexham again have impressed and can emulate York City‘s double of last season by winning the promotion through the play-offs having already been crowned FA Trophy winners.
Chester, below, naturally catch the eye also having lost just twice and scoring over 100 goals to secure a third straight promotion and the BSB North title, while Welling United are set to be named champions in the South.
At Step 3, Whitehawk have lived up to their potential in the Ryman Premier, North Ferriby United have shocked the Evo-Stik NPL Premier and Leamington look set to end their spell in the Southern League with the title.
And then there’s FA Vase finalists, Spennymoor Town and Tunbridge Wells who deserve a mention. That’s just a brief look at the top runners and riders for our Mark Harrod Team of the Year award and if you want to have your voice heard, send us your choice by post or by e-mail.
Budweiser Club Futures is a programme investing £1m into grassroots football. Season two applications will be live on thefa.com from July 2013.
