HEYBRIDGE SWIFTS have parted company with manager Cliff Akurang following the club’s slow start to the Ryman North season.
Veteran Non-League striker Akurang took the Swifts job last December and led the club to an impressive 12th place finish after replacing Keith Wilson with the club in the bottom three.
His first full season in charge didn’t start quite as well, however, with Swifts picking up just four points in six games. Akurang departed yesterday morning before the club’s 3-2 home defeat to Great Wakering Rovers.
His final game in charge was Saturday’s goalless draw at bottom club Barkingside. Mark Ashford has taken over first team affairs in a caretaker-manager role, being assisted by Gavin Dawes.
Akurang, 34, turned out for Vanarama National League South side Hayes & Yeading United last night, scoring in the club’s 7-1 friendly defeat at Braintree Town.
