FOR a club to be successful, they must obviously score goals and a club that consistently hits the back of the net entertains the supporters, usually builds a good record throughout the season and claims a challenging position in their league.
East Thurrock United, pictured above celebrating a goal, started the season with 31 consecutive scoring games, but they had only won three of their first ten league matches so were only placed in mid-table when the run ended.
However, failing to score just once since, in a 0-0 draw at Grays Athletic, the Rocks, inspired by senior Non-League football‘s most successful twin strikers (Sam Higgins on 27 and Lewis Smith on 17), are challenging for honours in third place.
Consecutive scoring runs don’t always bring automatic success, but just look at Sutton United who have an unbroken 11 game consecutive scoring run with ten victories and a 28-4 goal difference!
In fact the five clubs with promising unbroken scoring runs all seem to be thoroughly enjoying the new year.
The best run achieved by East Thurrock Utd, who scored in their first 31 games this season |
