FIRST team coaches Rob Polkinghorn and Steve King have been put in interim charge of Great Wakering Rovers following Gary Ansell’s resignation.

Ansell, who stepped up from assistant to replace Dan Trenkel, steered the club to Ryman North safety last season but they have started the new campaign slowly.

The boss stepped down at the end of last week and the club have confirmed that the duo of Polkinghorn and King will oversee first team affairs while they search for a new manager.

Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at AFC has left Rovers in the Ryman North’s bottom three with just four wins from their 15 league games.

A club statement read: “It is with great regret that Great Wakering Rovers FC have to announce that first team manager Gary Ansell has this evening resigned his position with the club.

“Gary has been associated with Rovers for many years as both player, assistant manager, and last year becoming first team manager following the departure of Dan Trenkel.

“Gary did a great job in steering Rovers to Ryman League safety and the club will be forever grateful to him in what he achieved after taking over in such difficult circumstances.

“First team coaches Rob Polkinghorn and Steve King have agreed to take control of first team affairs in light of Gary Ansell’s resignation.”
