CARDIFF CITY boss Neil Warnock says he decided to sign exciting Harrow Borough forward Ibrahim Meite on a “hunch”.
The 20-year-old has signed a deal until the end of next season with the Championship club after impressing Warnock during a trial spell.
Meite, who had scored 17 times in 30 games for Harrow, has been a wanted man for some time and also spent time on trial at Premier League champions Leicester City in October.
However, he has made the move to Wales and will be hoping to work his way into first team reckoning at the Cardiff City Stadium.
“He is an exciting prospect,” Warnock said. “I like the look of him and it’s not a difficult situation as there’s not a fee.
“It’s just a hunch that I had when I watched him play. We are restructuring the whole U23 situation – he’s probably not going to be straight into my first team squad, but he will train with us.
“He’s got a couple of years’ contract and in that time I hope he can establish himself. He’s got the attributes, and if what I can see is fulfilled, he’ll be a really good acquisition for us.”
A Harrow statement added: “Ibe has signed a professional contract with the Bluebirds until the end of next season after impressing manager Neil Warnock during a practice match against his first team while on trial with the Championship club’s development squad.
“Meite had attracted the attention of other clubs including Leicester City, earning himself a trial with the English champions in October.
“He scored scored 17 goals in 30 matches for Boro. Everyone at Harrow Borough wishes him well and looks forward to seeing him back at Earlsmead for a pre-season friendly.”
