Disabled Wrexham fans have a view for equality

DISABLED fans will enjoy some of the best vantage points at the Racecourse with three new viewing platforms being built.

Disabled Supporters’ Association (DSA) took on responsibility for raising funds for the platforms, with work on the first platform almost completed.

A total of £9,000 was raised with Wrexham donating £3,000 from FA Community grants received from recent runs.

Steve Gilbert, DSA vice-chairman, said: “The most pleasing aspect of the fundraising, apart from the magnificent help from the trust and the club, is the backing received from fans for the project and the value that they see in it.

“It’s particularly inspiring and humbling to see the various other supporters groups and the Former Players’ Association backing us. But the job is not yet done and we must now focus on the projects ahead as we seek accessibility and inclusion for all.”

Season ticket holders have had to move seats to allow wheelchair users to watch the match from the new viewing platforms, and Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson has praised those people.

The 11-time Paralympics gold medallist said: “The club has a commitment to raising funds for two more wheelchair viewing platforms, one of which will be for away fans. This is a club that genuinely cares about its spectators.”
