FORMER Kidderminster Harriers and Chester boss Steve Burr has agreed to become Southport‘s ninth boss since April 2013.
The 56-year-old, who has also managed Nuneaton, Hucknall Town, Northwich Victoria and Stalybridge Celtic, replaces Andy Bishop at Haig Avenue.
Rookie boss Bishop left the club on Saturday evening after the home defeat to Dover Athletic which left them second bottom of the National League with just one win from eight games.
The Sandgrounders have turned to Burr, a proven boss in Non-League‘s top flight, to get the club back on track and he takes over in time for Saturday’s trip to Eastleigh.
Burr was most recently in charge of Southport’s league rivals Chester but he was sacked in April following a poor run of form.
The England C assistant boss did, however, lead the club to a comfortable 12th place finish the season before after taking over in January 2014.
He will work closely with Liam Watson at Haig Avenue after Southport’s former boss returned to the club as a director earlier this week.
Port chairman Charlie Clapham told the club’s website: “I have known Steve a long time and we are all really looking forward to Steve’s input taking us all forward. Steve offers so much in the way of experience, desire and previous success.”
