PETERBOROUGH United have snapped up their latest starlet – ‘s teenage sensation Idris Kanu.

The 17-year-old striker joined the League One outfit for an undisclosed fee on Monday, becoming the next in a long line of players from outside of the League to be handed a chance at London Road.

Highly-rated Kanu joined the Shots from the West Ham Academy last summer, just days after scoring two goals for Manchester United during an Under 21 trial match.

After signing his first professional contract with the Shots on his 17th birthday, Kanu soon emerged as one of Non-League football’s brightest young talents, scoring five goals in 32 appearances and attracting a number of top Football League scouts.

But his future at the EBB Stadium was bought into question this summer after Kanu was left out of most of Aldershot Town’s pre-season campaign amid rumours of a fall out with manager Gary Waddock and assistant James Rowe.

Waddock denied a rift had taken place but after Kanu missed the 1-1 draw with AFC Wimbledon on Friday night, his move to Peterborough was confirmed.

Announcing the move in a brief statement, the club said: “We thank Idris for his efforts and wish him well for the future.”

Kanu becomes the latest Non-League player to join Grant McCann’s side this summer, joining Dover striker Ricky Miller, Stockport County winger Danny Lloyd and Nuneaton defender Alex Penny.

In the past, players like Dwight Gayle, Aaron McLean, Michael Kightly, Lee Tomlin and Conor have all progressed through the Peterborough ranks from the Non-League game.
