Jordan Parkes isn’t going to be sat in front of his iphone hoping and praying nobody betters his goal of the season contender for the next eight months.
Hemel Hempstead’s free scoring midfielder notched an incredible overhead kick on Saturday against Hungerford Town.
As the ball came into the box, his chest control was first class, Parkes set the ball up well with his back to goal and performed a bicycle kick which nestled perfectly into the top corner.
It has to be seen to be believed but as much as nobody can see into the future, you already get the sense that something very special will have to go in for him not to collect an award in May.
His goal has social media purring – and the hits are already stacking up.
“Half of those views are from me, don’t worry about that!” laughed the former Ebbsfleet player when we caught up with him ahead of the club’s match with Hampton tonight at Vauxhall Road.
“I just thought I’ll go for it. I have confidence that I can do that type of thing but I didn’t expect that if I’m being honest.
“It was nice, I loved the moment. I like scoring and have always got good numbers from midfield but I don’t think I have hit any better.
Great win yesterday @hemelfc. Goal wasn’t bad either ?? ?? ???????????? pic.twitter.com/CaRPBPkV0v

“I do like a long range goal but this is a bit different. I was pleased with it, but also pleased we won a really difficult game.”
But goal of the season in August?
“I don’t know about that!” he added. “Managers always say nothing is won or lost in August and it’ll be the same with the goal of the season.
“I thought it was decent and I hope it’s up there for sure.
“Don’t get me wrong, I’m not going to attach myself to the phone every week hoping nobody scores a better goal.
“But I’ll take a season of three-yard tap ins and scrappy goals if you are offering!”
On tonight’s match, Parkes is expecting a difficult test for Dean Brennan’s men.
“They’re a good side,” he said. “They are like us and like to play good football and I think the gaffer is right when he says it is going to be a really entertaining game.”
