Petersfield Town boss quits after side concede 17 in two games

By Matt Bishop
The season might still be young, but two emphatic defeats means  boss Jim Macey has already resigned from his role in charge of the side.
The Rams, who play in the Sydenhams Premier Division, endured a torrid start to their league campaign, conceding 17 goals in two games – losing 7-0 to and 10-0 to Blackfield & .
Sandwiched between those crushing defeats was an encouraging 4-1 win over Amesbury – Petersfield’s first league win since November – but a mass overhaul of players has made consistency at the start of the campaign hard to come by.
Macey, who has enjoyed spells in charge of Whitchurch and Amesbury, only took the Petersfield job in May, following the club’s relegation, but a solitary win against his former club didn’t tempt him to remain in the job at Love Lane.
Despite the manager’s departure, Petersfield chairman Graeme Moir is backing the squad to turn their fortunes around, telling the Southern Daily Echo: “We have plenty of talent in the squad and we just need to believe in ourselves going forward.
“Confidence will be hit by the recent heavy defeats and Jim Macey deciding to leave the club, but that is all in the past now.
“We can’t change history, we can only shape the future and that is where all of our focus now needs to be.
“A couple of positive results and things will look very different in a few weeks.”
