Bobby Wilkinson has given his first interview as Wealdstone‘s new manager – and says he doesn’t want time to get things going.
The Hungerford Town boss was selected as legendary Gordon Bartlett’s replacement after the iconic manager stepped aside following nearly 23 years of loyal service.
Passionate Wilkinson refuses to plead for time from his new club’s supporters and knows all too well that he is under pressure to deliver in the National League South this season.
“Give me time? No, I don’t want time. I don’t want to make future pledges because I am a part of this now,” he told Sunday’s Non-League Paper.
“I’m not here to be looking into the future, I’m here to deliver. I’m not going to even ask for a bedding in period, because I’ve got to turn it around quickly.
“I love pressure. I’m more than happy to work under it – I thrive on needing to get results. It may not happen right away for us but trust me, I’ve got the drive to ensure that before long this club is up and running. I’ve been left a very good team.”
Wilkinson added: “It’s exactly the right place for me to take my next step up. I can’t wait for Saturday.”
