Braintree Town manager Brad Quinton is refusing to get carried away with his side’s impressive start to the season, despite the excitement surrounding the club.
After last season’s disappointing relegation from the National League, the Iron faithful are starting to dream of promotion this term as they sit second in the National League South, fresh from Saturday’s excellent 5-0 win over Hungerford Town.
During the game, Braintree reached the division’s summit and fans were joyous as they chanted “we are top of the league”, and despite Truro’s late winner at East Thurrock placing them top, it was a win to remember for the home support.
However, Quinton is keeping his feet rooted firmly to the ground, and told the Braintree & Witham Times: “It’s great the position we’re in and I could hear the fans singing that we were top of the league.
“It’s nice for them to have that feeling again; it’s where we want to be. But at this moment in time, I’m happy with where we are.
“The boys have their targets and we’ll look at it again at Christmas.”
While Quinton is trying hard not to get ahead of himself, it is hard to ignore Braintree’s stunning home form – the sort of form that can earn promotions.
The Iron are yet to have tasted defeat at the IronmongeryDirect Stadium this season, winning four and drawing two of their six games on home soil, and Quinton is delighted with the way in which his players are performing.
He said: “Every one of the boys are playing great football and they are enjoying it.
“You can’t question their abilities and they work hard for one another and are on point, that showed against Hungerford.
“It’s important to have home form like we have at the moment. It’s important to keep the fans coming in and enjoying their football.
“The level of expectation I want from my players is up there and if they don’t deliver then I’ll go and get someone else.
“It’s enjoyable at the minute, but we have to keep feet on the ground.”
