Tranmere hoping to sign two new wingers, says Micky Mellon

By Matt Bishop
Tranmere Rovers manager Micky Mellon has said the club are trying to sign at least two new wingers in an attempt to ease the side’s goalscoring troubles.
Despite having the third best defence in the , Rovers are languishing down in 16th because they have struggled to find the back of the net.
Their tally of 13 goals in 17 games is the lowest in ‘s top-tier, and Mellon knows the pre-season title favourites must improve if they want to return to the League.
Speaking to BBC Merseyside, the former Shrewsbury boss said: “If we get the two players over the line that we believe will have a massive impact then I’m sure everybody will be very pleased.
“They’re as close to done as they could be, so I would expect both would be in the group for the weekend.”
Tranmere are preparing to take on FC on Saturday, hoping to end their three-game winless run against a Shaymen side who are also in poor form.
Having been as high as fifth earlier in the season, Billy Heath’s men have slumped to 13th in the National League after their midweek defeat to , and Mellon is hoping his new recruits can be the difference tomorrow.
He told BBC Radio Merseyside: “We need some wide players who we can get the ball to, because everybody plays a certain kind of football against us.
“We’re looking for people at that end of the pitch, who can get at people, isolate them and create chances for the front players.”
