47-year-old Paul Bastock has equalled legendary goalkeeper Peter Shilton’s record for appearances in a career which started way back in 1988.
Playing in Wisbech Town’s 2-1 over Sleaford Town in the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division was Bastock’s 1,249th time he has laced up his boots and pulled on the gloves to play in a competitive match.
The former Boston United and St Albans City stopper stands to set a new record when the Fenman take on Thetford Town in the second round of the FA Vase on Saturday.
Wisbech will head into the cup match high on confidence after a run 13 unbeaten games, including seven clean sheets for Bastock.
Thank the lord that’s over with not our best performance but a win is a win go on to the record breaking on Saturday hopefully with a win ⚽️⚽️🍺
