A two-week break from the National League has put Tranmere manager Micky Mellon in a ‘good position’ ahead of their clash with Torquay.
Rovers haven’t played since their 4-0 drubbing of Maidstone on November 25 leaving them with plenty of time to prepare for six games in 23 days over the Christmas period.
Mellon will be able to welcome back Steve McNulty and Jay Harris from suspension against the in-form Gulls, who are battling to climb out of the relegation zone.
Rovers have lost twice in their last nine National League matches and are unbeaten in five at home. However, Torquay are enjoying a purple patch themselves, having won at Sutton, beaten relegation rivals Leyton Orient and earned a useful point against high-flying Aldershot.
After a difficult start to the season, Tranmere are now gearing up for the second half of the campaign just four points adrift of the play-offs although are 11 off leaders Sutton.
Mellon told the club’s website: “We always look at the positives and the break has given us a chance to get some of the injured players back into the group.
“We’ve had a bit more training ground under our belts, so we’ve made the most of that.
“The players look very sharp in training and we’ll be ready to go in what will be a tough game against an improving Torquay side.
“We’ve got the lads as best prepared as we can and they’re all raring to go.
“Everybody is champing at the bit to play so it’s a good position for me to be in as the manager.”
