Paul Konchesky is in talks with Bostik League North club Grays Athletic after only leaving Billericay last month.
Konchesky runs a pie and mash shop in Essex and cited that he left the club to focus on “other commitments”.
The former West Ham left-back, who earned two England caps, captained Ricay having joined Glenn Tamplin’s side in March.
Tamplin tweeted at the time: “Paul it’s hard to comment on twitter after our days of discussions but we both understand why this is now the time for you to hang up your boots and as I said your a great ambassador for Billericay and I hope we find a way for you to stay involved I really do.”
But now the 36-year-old is in talks with Grays boss Jamie Stuart, who he knows from his time at Charlton.
Stuart told the Basildon Echo: “I’ve had a good chat with Paul and we’re in the middle of talks at the moment.
“I’m good friends with him. We were at the Charlton Athletic legends game (which celebrated 25 years since The Valley reopened) a couple of months ago.
“I still speak to him and a lot of them from my time at Charlton.
“We’re quite close, but we can’t offer him anywhere near the amount of money he was on at Billericay.
“But it’s not about the money. If he can come and help us, that would be great. We will wait and see what happens.
“It would be good to bring him in to play but also help on the coaching side as well.”
