Bristol Rovers, of League One, have signed Aldershot Town‘s impressive forward Bernard Mensah for an undisclosed fee.
The 23-year-old, who joined the Shots from Watford in June 2016, made 64 appearances for the club and scored 17 goals, playing a key part in their successful season so far.
Mensah turned out twice the Hornets first-team and enjoyed loan spells at Braintree Town and Barnet where he played under Aldershot manager Gary Waddock as they won promotion from the National League.
He will go straight into the Rovers squad for their trip to Blackpool on Saturday.
Mensah said: “I’m very pleased to have signed so early in the transfer window as the earlier the deal is done the better for the player and the club.
“There were a few other clubs interested in signing me but once I heard of Rovers’ interest they were my first choice. The Aldershot manager, Gary Waddock told me about the fans here, something I already knew having played here a couple of times myself.”
Aldershot chief executive, Laura Smith, added: “Bernard was keen to play at a higher level and Gary Waddock didn’t want to stand in his way, especially as he would be out of contract in May. We only received Rovers’ offer this week and wanted a swift resolution.”
