Tom Shaw says that he leaves Chester with a “heavy heart” after returning to his former club Tamworth on an 18-month deal.
The 31-year-old midfielder made 106 appearances for the Blues, scoring 12 goals during his two-and-a-half-year stay.
Shaw also featured as caretaker manager after Jon McCarthy was sacked prior to Marcus Bignot’s arrival.
“All I can say is that this has been the most enjoyable period of my entire career,” said Shaw. “I’ve had a lot of clubs but this is like a second home to me. It’s with a heavy heart I make this decision.”
Blues Chief Executive Mark Maguire added: “It has been a pleasure to work with Tom over the last eighteen months.
“His commitment, drive and enthusiasm for the club, not to mention the respect in which he is held by everyone associated with Chester FC is a credit to him and his family.
“His willingness to step into the breach earlier this season was the first taste he will have of what I have no doubt will be a long and successful career, I’d like to thank him personally and professionally for all he has done.”
Shaw departed Tamworth in 2010 having played over 60 times and went on to represent the likes of Kidderminster, Cambridge, and Alfreton.
His new boss, Andy Morrell, commented: “He will be great for the younger members of the squad, and will lead by example. We are really pleased to get such an experienced player in.”
