Lewes FC secured promotion to the Bostik Premier in impressive fashion last night after cruising to a 4-2 victory over Horsham at The Dripping Pan.
Goals from Jonte Smith, Ghassimu Sow, Harry Reed and Frankie Chappell moved Lewes to an unassailable 95 points, putting them out of reach of third-placed Cray Wanderers.
Following a 9th-placed finish last season, the Rooks have had a superb campaign under the stewardship of manager Darren Freeman, winning 29 games and finding the net a remarkable 91 times.
Although promotion has now been secured, Freeman’s side are still locked in a tantalizing battle for the Bostik South title with Carshalton Athleitc. Last night’s result moved Lewes to the top of the table, two points above The Robins, however Carshalton have a potentially crucial game in hand over their title rivals.
Celebration will have to be kept in check following last night’s game as Lewes face a kick turnaround to face 21st place East Grinstead Town on Saturday afternoon.
