AFC Hornchurch were confirmed as champions of the Bostik North on Tuesday night after easing to a 2-0 home win against Mildenhall Town.
The Urchins secured their 31st victory of the season as first half goals from Nathan Cooper and Brad Warne were enough to beat 19th-placed Mildenhall.
After losing in the play-offs in their last two seasons Jimmy McFarlane’s side have taken the league by storm this season and currently find themselves 14 points ahead of second-placed Potters Bar Town.
The Urchins have won plaudits at both ends of the pitch this season, having found the net an impressive 92 times and only conceding on 31 occasions. These statistics mean that McFarlane’s side are the second top goalscorers in the Bostik North and have by far the best defensive record.
AFC Hornchurch were founded in 2005 following the liquidation of Hornchurch and began life in the Essex Senior League. A successful few years followed on the pitch, which culminated in a play-off victory over Lowestoft Town in 2012 to secure promotion to the Conference South. A difficult few years followed this success, however the indications suggest that The Urchins could be on their way back.
