Torquay United manager Gary Owers: Guiseley defeat is the lowest point in my career

Gary Owers has described ‘s 4-3 defeat at home to ten-man as ‘the lowest point in my career’ with both clubs already relegated.
Harry Flowers was sent off in just the third minute, conceding a penalty in the process, which was saved by Joe Green from Elliott Romain. Two minutes later and Guiseley were ahead through Dayle Southwell
Rhys Healey equalised but Will Hatfield restored Guiseley’s lead and then Rowan Liburd added a third on the hour mark.
Healey got Torquay back within touching distance although the Lions restored their two-goal lead as Liburd netted his second.
Healey bagged his hat-trick goal late on but that could do little in improving the mood at Plainmoor with only 1007 in attendance.
“I am shocked. That’s not a representation of me and not of Torquay United fans or the club in any shape or form,” said Owers.
“We lost all our organisation and shape, and they didn’t do the things they were supposed to do and asked to do.
“Sorry is not a big enough word – there isn’t a word to apologise for that. It was dreadful.
“I think that’s the lowest point of my career, and it’s not about me though. We were lazy. We didn’t work hard enough against ten men. We couldn’t pass the ball five yards or ten yards.
“I am not making any excuses. I am there to be shot at, and I am being shot at. It’s my fault. I have to take the blame, I know that.”
