Are U’s On The Money With Jinx Claim?

MAYBE it’s just my presence jinxing Cambridge United, but they weren’t great on Tuesday – although Nuneaton  Town’s performance belied their position in the BSBP relegation zone.

U’s boss Richard Money said sorry to supporters after the disappointing 3-1 defeat, adding: “To anyone who came along who hasn’t been for the last two months, double apologies.”

That would be me in the ‘hasn’t been to the Abbey since the end of October sense’, although as a neutral privileged to get into the game free in the name of work, it’s not this correspondent who needed an apology.

So far this season I’ve seen United lose at home to (Harriers’ first win), Luton in the , Hyde (the Tigers’ first away success) and now Nuneaton, who recorded on their second win on the road.

After a difficult start to his reign – bar the sole win I’ve seen, 4-1 against Mansfield, on his debut – Money has clearly had a positive impact on the fortunes of a side who had already gone on an eight-game winless streak before he took over.

They were nine unbeaten going into Tuesday’s game, moving within two places and six points of the play-offs just ten weeks after being 20th.

At that stage, Cambridge were only three points above rock-bottom Nuneaton when both sides had played 17 games.

It was clearly a bad day at the office for the U’s, but considering what had gone before it, not worthy of the tannoy announcer, just before the final whistle, thanking “everyone for turning up in this freezing weather …and putting up with this!”
