Christian will be sorely missed

has paid tribute to young footballer Christian Rowe, who passed away after being involved in a road traffic accident.

The promising 19-year-old was part of the Academy 23 and had been playing games for side this season.

Slough’s trip to Braintree and Binfield’s game against Staines Town yesterday were both postponed, along with the clubs’ U23 fixtures.

Slough joint-boss Neil Baker said on twitter: “Devastated to receive the news on Christian, can only send our condolences to all his family and friends. A lovely lad who had a real chance of an excellent career in football, and one that myself and Jon (Underwood) rated highly – 19 us just no age. RIP Christian.

A statement from Slough and Binfield read: “This news has left everyone involved with Academy23, Slough Town FC and Binfield FC devastated and heartbroken.

“Christian was regarded as one of Slough Town’s most promising young players, and this season had been a standout performer for the U23s and been involved in the first team squad.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Christian’s parents, family, friends, and teammates.

“We ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy at this incredibly difficult time.”

Rowe’s former club also paid their tribute and their were messages of condolence from across the game.

Slough midfielder Scott Davies tweeted: “Thoughts are with Christian’s family, friends and all those who were lucky enough to play with him at the football club. A very talented young man who we’ll make sure is never forgotten.”
