BEN Strevens says he will never forget the memories made during his three years as Eastleigh.
The 41-year-old left the Spitfires by mutual consent after his side became the first National League club to be beaten by rock-bottom Dover Athletic in 364 days on Tuesday night. It was Eastleigh’s fourth consecutive defeat.
A statement said the club and Strevens came to an agreement a change was required. Ex-midfielder Strevens turned out for Barnet, Dagenham, Wycombe and Brentford before making over 120 appearances for the Spitfires.
He was assistant manager before landing the top job permanently in November 2018 and led the club to the National League play-off semi-finals in 2019, where they were beaten on penalties by Salford City. Last season they missed out on the playoffs on the final day.
Strevens also saw the likes of Jack Payne, Joe Tomlinson, Josh Hare, Joey Jones, Rob Atkinson and, most recently, Ben House all land moves into the EFL during his time.
In an emotional statement, Strevens said: “Thank you Kenny (Amor), Tom (Coffey), Mick (Budny) and the rest of the board that gave me the opportunity to become manager and for always believing in me. The supporters you’ve back me more than I could have ever hoped for. Sorry results haven’t been as you would have liked but please don’t forget or look past the good times we’ve had.
“Lastly the players, I am going to miss you boys. Thank you to every player past and present for everything you have done for me. I will never forget the moments we’ve shared.”
Assistant manager Jason Bristow is in interim charge while they search. Former Bromley boss Neil Smith is out of work, while Worthing manager Adam Hinshelwood, 38, is impressing at the top of the Isthmian Premier.
