LEAGUE CHIEF KEN WAS MUCH LOVED BY ALL

THE Southern League are in mourning for former chairman Ken Turner, who sadly passed away this week.

Ken was a hugely popular figure on the board having served as chairman from 2005 to 2016.

Before becoming chairman, he was appointed as a league director in June 1998, also serving as vice chairman to Doug Gilliard. Ken also served as the League’s FA Representative during his tenure as chairman sitting on Alliance, Leagues and Committees to name but three.

Ken also spent many happy years as secretary at FC, joining the club from local rivals Cheltenham Town in the early 1990s becoming a director in April 1995.

In 2004 he became acting Chairman at the club when he replaced Colin Gardner following his res-ignation and remained in that capacity until his departure in 2006.

He also devoted his spare time to helping young people in Cheltenham with assisting in the running of youth clubs.

League Operations Manager Jason Mills said:

“I remained in contact with Ken since he left the League in 2016, a friendship that had formed since I became his assistant at Gloucester City back in the Nineties and we shared a passion for football as well as a shared passion for humour. Rest In Peace, friend.”
