BARTON TOWN edged to within a point of second-placed Emley thanks to a 3-1 victory over fellow high-fliers Penistone Church.
After a goalless first half, it was an own goal from Ryan Johnson that handed Barton a 52nd minute lead before a Chris Spinks double, including one from the penalty spot, took the hosts clear.
Nathan Keightley scored a late penalty for Church.
Handsworth climbed up to fourth following their 9-1 drubbing of basement boys Yorkshire Amateur who actually took the lead through Sam Pickles’ 10th minute effort.
