FOOTBALL has united in support for Bath City‘s Alex Fletcher, who was admitted to intensive care in a stable but critical condition on Tuesday night after colliding into an advertising hoarding.
The 23-year-old forward sustained a “severe head injury” after hitting the perimeter wall of Bath’s Twerton Park ground just five minutes into their National League South clash with Dulwich Hamlet.
Paramedics, who were yards away from the incident, attended within seconds before an ambulance was called.
Following discussions with both Bath City boss Jerry Gill and his Dulwich counterpart Paul Barnes, referee Lewis Sandoe agreed to abandon the match.
Fletcher was taken away in an ambulance at 8.52pm and transferred to Southmead Hospital later that night. He required emergency “For now the most imneurosurgery and was admitted to intensive care.
A statement released by his parents at 10am on Wednesday morning read: “Unfortunately, Alex has sustained a severe head injury as a result of last night’s events.

“He required emergency neurosurgery to stabilise his condition and was then admitted to intensive care where he remains in a stable but critical condition.
“Alex’s family would like to thank everyone for their best wishes that have been sent.”
The family and club have requested privacy.
Barnes and his Dulwich players offered their support to Fletcher’s concerned team-mates afterwards and led the messages of support on social media with more than 1,200 tweets received.
Dulwich wrote: “Due to the serious injury sustained by Alex Fletcher, both teams have agreed to abandon the game. portant thing is the safety and recovery of Alex, and from everyone connected with Dulwich, we wish him a speedy and full recovery.”
Campaign
Fletcher joined Bath City in January 2021 and was named Supporters’ and Players’ Player of the Season in his first full campaign, where he netted 19 goals in all competitions.
The Newton Abbot-born front man has made 69 appearances for the club and scored 28 goals.
He joined from Tiverton Town having progressed through the Plymouth Argyle Academy.
Among the well wishes was from former England international and one-time Plymouth boss Peter Reid and the official England twitter account, while West Ham United displayed their message of support on the big screen, inset, of their London Stadium home ahead of their Carabao Cup tie with Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday night.
