DARLINGTON defender Paddy Almond is showing “encouraging signs of improvement” after doctors detected a bleed on the brain following the FA Trophy clash at Southend last Saturday.
The 20-year-old left the pitch shortly into the second half of the match at Roots Hall and was taken to Southend Hospital with a suspected concussion. But doctors quickly uncovered a bleed on his brain and transferred him to the Royal London Hospital for urgent treatment.
Another scan on Thursday revealed that the bleeding has now stopped but Almond will remain his hospital under observation.
The situation has touched the hearts of the nation with a GoFund-Me page having raised over £13,100 last night to help with out-of-pocket expenses for Almond and his family.
A club statement read: “Everyone involved in the world of football, continues to keep Paddy in our thoughts and wishes him a speedy recovery.”
